Bear with me here..
We are attempting to get our homeschool set up for our 2016-2017 school year. (Attempting!) I've been scouring the web for innovative organizational tools, browsing Pinterest for new ideas, shopping for curriculum, making lesson plans, throwing out the empty tempera bottles & dried up glue sticks.. You get the picture.
The first thing I did was make a curriculum list while the previous school year was still fresh in my mind, yep, back in June. I had made a Curriculum Planner a few years ago to help me comparison shop the different vendors.
I used to love browsing through catalogs & homeschool magazines, but now I have my go-to sites online; Rainbow Resource Center, Amazon, and Facebook. (Plus a few straight-from-the-publisher sites, like MathUSee) If you haven't yet discovered Facebook's used homeschool curriculum groups, you're missing out. These are where the golden bargains are found! I even found a used curriculum sale page restricted to my local area. No shipping charges! And no, I don't do Ebay anymore. Who has time to monitor an online auction?! Not this gal.
Oh, What types of curriculum am I using, you ask?
Math: MathUSee Zeta, & Geometry ( I'm a math teacher, but Mr. Demme's videos save me precious time. The more self-reliant the kids are, the better. So I let the kiddos watch the video lesson on their own. If they need extra help, it's easy for me to jump right in.)
Science: Apologia (General Science & Chemistry)
English: Essentials in Writing (with a little grammar review inserted via our used Shurley English books), Getty-Dubay Italic Handwriting workbook, Memoria Press's Poetry & Short Stories: American Literature Set, A Midsummer Night's Dream set (also from MP) -This is our first year using EIW. We'll see how it goes.
French: First Start French (MP again!), DuoLingo.com (super-fabulous and FREE)
History: Illinois State History set (by Joy Dean), Foundation for Freedom: A Study of the United States Constitution (Christian Liberty Press), The Story of the World (Susan Wise Bauer)
Religion:ESV Bible, Luther's Small Catechism, &
Art: Meet the Masters, & some free video lessons from Sharon Jeffus
Music: Private piano lessons, Schola Cantorum at the newly founded J.S. Bach Academy of Music, & some listening time with online music & library resources. We'll also pop in some of our favorite Classical Kids CDs from time to time. They were a great way to introduce the kids to classical music from a young age, and kept them entertained on car trips!
P.E.: Homeschool sports & library books.
Whoops! I knew I forgot something! Time to sign the girls up for Volleyball.
